Curriculum
There is academic content in every activity children do at Gray
Mare. Our teachers enhance the child’s discoveries with daily
theme-related “circles”. They include specially chosen books, songs,
finger plays, flannel board stories, and discussions that expose the
children to academic content in a fun way and naturally become part
of the Daily Schedule.
Skills appropriate for more structured learning are developed slowly
throughout the year. These skills include the ability to sit and
listen, follow directions, cooperate, participate and take turns.
These readiness skills are very important for a successful
kindergarten experience.
Included in our activities may be the following
- Reading and Math Readiness - The skills are integrated into
every area of our curriculum. The child is introduced to new
vocabulary, phonics, and is exposed to and practices with
numbers, colors, shapes, letters and problem solving.
- Music and Movement Experiences - These are creative
expressions that are included to reinforce theme-related
topics, develop memory, practice patterning, develop motor
skills or just for the sheer joy of it!
- Art Projects - both Process and Product in nature Process
art is the child’s purely creative exploration of different
media for self-expression. Product art is a more structured
activity that utilizes a child’s fine motor skills, spatial
awareness, cognitive skills and the ability to follow directions.
